Play Therapy

My approach to working with children is based on the principles of child-centred play therapy.

In this context play offers a safe and supported avenue for self- expression and a way to resolve difficulties, conflicts and tensions without being overwhelmed.

This form of therapy enables children to connect more deeply with themselves, to express thoughts and feelings and to heal from trauma.

This approach can assist with adjustments such as divorce, school changes, new siblings, death and other changes in the family.

It can also help with emotional and behavioral issues such as anxiety, grief, loss, separation, nightmares, bullying, overstimulation, aggression, attachment concerns and early trauma.

It is a form of early intervention, and as there is no need for a child to have to speak to the therapist, it is an effective way to work with non-verbal children as young as 2 years of age.

When appropriate I also use sand play, art therapy, story and nature therapy in my work with children.
